Session Title: What's Your Leadership Philosophy?
 
Session Presenter:
Margaret Long, Dean of Education

Session Description: In this interactive session, we will discuss various leadership styles and philosophies! We will discuss different aspects of leadership so you can discover your natural talents and abilities to make the most of your strengths.
Session Objectives: You will leave this session with a better understanding of your inherent talents and abilities, as well as your strengths and weaknesses, to help you become a better leader.
 
About your Presenter: Margaret Long is the Division Chair of Life Sciences at Gwinnett Technical College, specializing in Anatomy & Physiology (A&P), Biology, and Microbiology. Dr. Long is passionate about helping students and faculty understand how learning best occurs. Many years after graduating from Georgia State University with a Master’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Dr. Long pursued her Doctor of Education degree in Curriculum & Instruction with a concentration in Curriculum Studies from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Long is an advisor for the Gwinnett Tech Science Club and SkillsUSA Club. Within SkillsUSA, she advises students in First Aid/CPR, Health Knowledge Bowl, Health Occupations Professional Portfolio, Medical Math, and Medical Terminology competitions. Since 2015, she has coached a total of 38 students that competed in the state SkillsUSA Conference, of whom 29 were state medalists and 9 were national medalists. She was also the SkillsUSA Georgia Postsecondary 2020 Advisor of the Year.

Session Title: How to Make Students Care About Your Student Government
 
Session Presenter: 
Butch Oxendine, Executive Director
American Student Government Association
 
Session Description: Your SG must do something real that matters to fellow students if you ever want to be respected and appreciated. This workshop will give real examples of innovative and exciting “signature programs” that are being used by SGs nationwide to get the attention of students and administrators. These programs will make your SG much-admired and “relevant,” and will help you with everything from member recruiting to voter turnout to relations with administrators.
Session Objectives:
1. Be aware of the 800 programs you could bring to your campus
2. Understand what makes a “signature program”
3. How do you find one that will work for you
4. Understand which signature programs are best
 
About Your Presenter: Butch is founder of the American Student Government Association. Butch was SGA vice president and editor-in-chief of the college newspaper (serving at the same time) at Lake City Community College, then served as SG press secretary and editor of The Campus Leader at the University of Florida. Named in 1992 as one of the nation’s top 100 entrepreneurs under age 30 by the Association for Collegiate Entrepreneurs, Butch has been publishing student-oriented magazines, books, and web sites for nearly 40 years. He studied journalism at the University of Florida, but left school to work full-time on his first magazine, Florida Leader. He later launched four other publications, including the national magazine Student Leader. He has written three books on student-leadership issues. Butch is married to Kathy, and they have a daughter, Leah, and four sons (Will, Adam, Andrew, Luke) and grandson Shiloh. Butch enjoys being a Trekker, loves Firefly, working outdoors, serving his God and church, scoring his boys' high school baseball games, and cheering for the Tampa Bay Rays, Lightning, and Bucs.

Session Title: Change, To Making It Count!
 
Session Presenter:
Crystal Waye, Program Director, Human Resource Management Degree
Columbus Technical College
 
Session Description: Being a change agent is an important responsibility. Becoming a change agent requires a person to maintain a level of flexibility and influence among those he/she is leading. Influencing others does not require a certain title but is in how you approach people and the strategies to implement new concepts. In this session attendees will understand the definition of being a change agent, how creating an environment of change is health for the individual and workforce and ways to create buy in during the implementation stage.
Session Objectives:
You will leave this session with understanding.
1) how change management helps you grow
2) how being an agent of change builds leadership skills
3) what does it mean to be a change agent
4) strategies to implement change.
 
About Your Presenter: Ms. Crystal D. Waye reshapes minds as the Program Director of the Human Resource Management Degree at Columbus Technical College. In 2015, she received the opportunity to reshape lives as a mentor stepping into the role of advisor for the Phi Beta Lambda collegiate team of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). She is a 2008 graduate Columbus State University and a 2010 graduate of Troy State University earning a Bachelors of Arts (Communication) and Master of Business Administration, respectively. Ms. Waye volunteers on numerous committees and boards throughout the city of Columbus to include: United Way, Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), FBLA-PBL, DECA and Georgia Department of Education Business Advisory Committee. As a servant mentor, she is the founder of Infinite Beesness and The DaniLove Project. She believes all youth should be afforded the educational opportunity to do more and to do better. As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. she serves on committees centered on the personal and educational development of adolescents and young adults. She is the mother of two, Erykah and Snowflake.

Session Title:  Developing Your Core Values and Creating Change from Within
 
Session Presenter:
Amy O'Dell, Student Affairs Coordinator
Technical College System of Georgia
 
Session Description:  During this session, you will work hands-on alongside Ms. Amy O'Dell learning to identify your personal core values. You will learn strategies and resources for incorporating these values into all areas of your life and ultimately create positive change for yourself and the world from within.
Session Objectives: 
1. Identify personal core values
2. Relate core values to your current and future life
3. Apply core values to personal growth goals
4. Learn resources and strategies for core values "homework"
 
About your Presenter: Amy O'Dell is a Student Affairs Coordinator for the Technical College System of Georgia. Amy provides direct support, logistical services, project management and event planning for career and technical student organizations, such as SkillsUSA, Phi Beta Lambda, National Technical Honor Society and Student Government Association. Amy also serves as the Assistant State Director for SkillsUSA Georgia Postsecondary. Amy graduated with her Master's Degree of Interior Design from Brenau University in 2009 and also earned her LEED Green Associate in 2010. Having taught Interior Design and Architectural Drafting at the college level since 2009, Amy currently provides individualized, nurturing, and workforce driven education for aspiring designers as an adjunct instructor at Chattahoochee Technical College.
